As many of you know, in 2025 the Board of the San Leon MUD (SLMUD) voted to suspend mandatory customer payments to the San Leon Volunteer Fire Department (SLVFD) pending the resolution of financial reporting issues from the SLVFD to the SLMUD that had not been adequately addressed to the satisfaction of the SLMUD Board. Ultimately, a new fire plan amendment was adopted between the SLMUD and the SLVFD and presented to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for review pursuant to the requirements of the Texas Water Code. The SLMUD has now received notice that the TCEQ has reviewed and approved the amended fire plan, including additional financial reporting requirements for the SLVFD. TCEQ also approved the reinstatement of the mandatory fees to customers. Accordingly, beginning with the June billing statements, fire department fees will be a mandatory charge on your water bill, subject to all penalties for non- payment, up to and including cutoff of water and sewer services, if necessary.
